Timeshare Battles with the Recession for its Relief

The timeshare industry is not only having troubles with the timeshare owners who are trying to find ways to gain timeshare relief. It is also battling with the ill - effects of the recession causing much of the decrease of its sales and closure of its other sales offices.

Timeshare owners who are seldom using their timeshares are considering getting out of their timeshare contracts. These contracts bind them to a responsibility of paying the maintenance fees as well as other special assessments that their timeshare companies will charge them. And that is regardless if they were able to use the package within the year.

However, this is not the only predicament that the industry is facing. It is also badly hit by the recession causing it to lose much of its sales. Its sales in 2008 decreased by 48 percent while in 2009, it dropped 40 percent. The CEO of American Resort Development Association (ARDA), Howard Nusbaum estimates that the sales of timeshare this year will be flat.

This is caused by the stringent standards and requirements newly implemented by financing companies making it more difficult for timeshare buyers to get independent financing. The industry itself is also struggling to repackage and resell the mortgages they offer.

Timeshare companies can continue with their ways even with the current dilemma but it would be more beneficial for them to adjust with the recession as well as the need of the timeshare owners who are trying to get rid of their timeshares. They may be able gain more if they accommodate the market better.
